Community Collective Planned for Victoria Park

There is growing interest in a new community center and organization at the former Riversdale Lawn Bowling site. The Riversdale Community Collective is a growing organization that is responsible for maintaining a small community building and fenced land within Victoria Park, 819 Spadina Cres. West, Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. The RCCS ensures that the building and land, owned by the City of Saskatoon, are made accessible for free or low-cost community recreation, sport, culture and/or educational programs and events for Saskatoon residents, including children, youth, adults and seniors who live nearby in King George, Riversdale, West Industrial, Pleasant Hill, and Holiday Park. A number of different organizations are working together to develop exciting opportunities for this space including:

  • Saskatoon Food Council
  • CHEP
  • Wild Sky Adventure Learning
  • King George Community Association
  • Riversdale Community Association
  • King George and Riversdale Community Garden Group
  • The Local Kitchen
  • AKA Gallery

If you are interested in helping with this work please contact us and we can forward your interest to the relevant people.

New Core Neighbourhood school

Earlier this year, plans were announced to consolidate three older schools in core neighbourhoods, Pleasant Hill, King George and Princess Alexandra, into one school to be built on the current site of the Princess Alexandra school. The new school and community space received $29 million of funding and will be built near the existing Princess Alexandra School on Avenue H. The City of Saskatoon along with the Saskatoon Tribal Council Chief are working together to house the White Buffalo Youth Lodge and other community services in the new space. These could include programs run by Riversdale, King George, or Pleasant Hill Community Associations including a skating rink in winter and community programming and events throughout the year.

There is still time to give input and feedback about this exciting new project in our neighbourhood. You can contact the Riversdale Community Association via email at riversdaleca@gmail.com to provide your input.
